Do You Have a Relationship Plan?
When you start a company, you create a business plan. You map out the goals and how you’re going to achieve them. At regular intervals, you sit down and review your plan. You check off the goals you have achieved and write a new set. The process keeps your business on track and helps the company achieve success. Why don’t you do the same with your personal relationships? In your relationship with your significant other, you should have a relationship plan. As a lawyer and life coach, I’m a firm believer in setting my intentions and my goals. Then I work backward on how I am going to achieve it. I add it to my calendar and make sure each task aligns with the bigger vision. If you did the same with your relationship, you’d avoid a lot of conflicts. (And, possibly needing someone like me – a divorce attorney.) When you meet with your significant other, you should discuss travel, finances, your home, and children. A relationship plan helps keep you both on the same page. The plan serves as a blueprint of your life together. In my personal life, I sit down with my husband every Saturday at 9 am and discuss our life together. We review our goals and our dreams. Then we make a plan and put it on our calendar. It absolutely has helped us to stay connected in a way that we may not have if we didn’t have a relationship plan. Relationship plans don’t have to be limited to just your significant other. You could create a plan with a close friend or family member. It will serve as a guide on what you’d like to achieve on a personal level with this individual. Relationship plans help you live a more rewarding and meaningful life. Give it a try and let me know how it works for you. Stay healthy in mind and body. Frequently Asked Questions

Are prenuptial agreements enforceable in Florida?

Yes, prenuptial agreements are enforceable in Florida if they are written, signed voluntarily by both parties, and include a full and fair disclosure of assets and liabilities. Courts may invalidate agreements that are unconscionable or signed under duress.

Can a prenuptial agreement protect my business?

Yes. A well-drafted prenuptial agreement can specify that a business or its future growth remains separate property in the event of a divorce, protecting your ownership stake and business interests.

What can a postnuptial agreement cover?

A postnuptial agreement can address property division, spousal support, and debt allocation. However, it cannot include provisions relating to child custody or child support — those are determined by the court at the time of divorce based on the child's best interests.

When should I consider a prenuptial agreement?

You should consider a prenuptial agreement if you have significant assets, own a business, have children from a prior relationship, anticipate an inheritance, or simply want clarity about financial expectations in your marriage.
