Acceptance Requires Effort I love the Eckhart Tolle quote "Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it.” Many of my clients find themselves not wanting the divorce. Their spouse has asked them for a divorce and they are resisting it. They are holding on to what could have been or how they can convince their spouse to change their mind. They spend a lot of time and energy in this place of resistance; stuck, afraid, and lost. What I gently explain to them is that acceptance requires effort. And putting in effort means that they are not dealing with something that's easy. In fact, the formal definition of effort is, “a vigorous or determined attempt.” Many of us think of acceptance as giving in or giving up. That if we accept it, it means defeat. But what if we could rethink this to mean moving on or moving past it? How freeing would that be? Holding on to past events keeps you stuck. Acceptance is the key to healing, moving on, and permitting yourself to create a new and amazing life filled with unlimited possibilities. I'm asking you to consider accepting all of the facts and circumstances of your life - the things that you cannot change. You too have the power, through acceptance, to heal and move on to endless possibilities and find the happiness you deserve.   Stay healthy in mind and body and have an amazing rest of the week. Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do first if I'm considering divorce?

Before making any decisions, consult with an experienced family law attorney to understand your rights and options. You should also start gathering important financial documents and understanding the full picture of your marital assets.

How do I protect my finances during a divorce?

Start by documenting all marital and separate assets, opening individual bank accounts, reviewing your credit report, and consulting with a financial advisor. Avoid making major financial decisions without legal guidance to protect your interests.

How long does it take to emotionally recover from a divorce?

Recovery timelines vary widely. Research suggests it takes about 1–2 years on average to fully adjust to life after divorce. Working with a therapist, divorce coach, or support group can significantly accelerate the healing process.
