Figure It Out and Grow Why do some of us take the easy way out instead of figuring it out? Our brains are designed to take the path of least resistance - it's how our primitive brain works. We may ask someone a question before even trying to figure out the answer ourselves, or just flat-out give up. This type of behavior doesn’t propel us to greater success and more importantly, greater confidence. Let’s face it, there are certain things that we need help on. Navigating through a divorce is an example of a situation where you are better off hiring a lawyer to assist - someone like myself who has over 27 years of Marital and Family Law experience would in most cases, make sense. But what about all the things that we can figure out ourselves and more importantly, learn from and grow from? When I was taking my course to become a life coach, my school required us to use plenty of technology. I was lost. I sought help within the school (and secretly, from people I knew). My teacher said, "Nope. You have to do it yourself. It’s not about turning in the work that involves technology. It's about focusing on that uncomfortable zone you are feeling that is based in your thoughts of 'I can’t do this, I am not technology inclined', and working through that." I learned, I conquered, and I grew. Most importantly, I learned how to tell my primitive brain to go away and assured myself that I could do it. The next time I encountered yet another thing that was foreign to my skill set, I was more likely to give it a try. You can do it too. You can learn and grow and move forward. You have all the power. It may feel awkward and frustrating but when you do it, it’s an amazing feeling. Stay healthy in mind and body and have an amazing rest of the week.   Doreen Yaffa Board Certified Marital & Family Attorney, Life Coach Want to receive our Monday Message email? Start by documenting all marital and separate assets, opening individual bank accounts, reviewing your credit report, and consulting with a financial advisor. Avoid making major financial decisions without legal guidance to protect your interests.
