Is it Time to Say Goodbye?
Our lives are busy, but we only have a finite amount of time. You can’t buy more time. You can’t work harder and gain back time. And, as much as we all wish we could, we can’t add hours to the day.
We have a finite amount of energy as well. Time and energy are the two most important areas of your life that will determine your success. When was the last time you reviewed how you were using them?
Take an inventory of your time. Chances are there are things in your life that don’t serve you the way they used to. These activities or practices used to work for your lifestyle, where you were in your life or how you were growing but now they don’t serve you. They’re no longer bringing you joy.
I’m a big fan of getting rid of the clutter. Clutter invites disorganization and wasted time and effort. The same way you declutter your house, you need to declutter your time and energy.
Unfortunately, this also transfers over into relationships. Your relationship with a person may have had amazing years but now it doesn’t serve you anymore. It happens with friendships, families, and of course marriages.
As a family lawyer, people come to me after there has been horrible relationship breaking activities that have happened in their marriages – fighting, anger, adultery or worse. I have to wonder if they had stopped and taken an inventory before this happened could they have ended the relationship earlier and on a better note.
Sometimes we have to say, “I loved you, but our relationship is complete.” I encourage you to take an inventory. Ask yourself if you would buy that item now. Would you put the time and energy into that person now?
You’re writing the story of your life; you get to determine what’s in it.
