No Is a Powerful Tool
“It’s overwhelming!”
I can’t count the number of times my friends, and family has said this in the past month. I’m used to hearing it from clients but not everyone else in my life.

It seems as if we’ve reached a breaking point. Our batteries are drained.
If you’ve gone through a divorce, you know this feeling. You feel like every area of your life is impacted and nothing is easy. But what happened? You got through it. You likely worked with an attorney to help you through the process. Perhaps you sought counseling. You leaned on your friends and family.
Just like a divorce, we will get through this time period.
Now you’re probably thinking ok, but what can I do right now? My answer: say no.
No is one of the most important words we can use. It means we understand our value. How do you start saying no to combat fatigue?
Take an inventory of your day to day life. List what brings you joy and what detracts from it. Then find a way to remove what is not working and replace it with what is.
Here are some options to consider:
- Say no to negative feelings that bubble up when you get on social media. Take a break from it. You would be amazed what a few days away from the online chatter can do to rejuvenate you.
- Say no to the needy friend that calls you every week. Pick an old friend you haven’t spoken to for a while, preferably that always makes you smile, and give them a ring.
- Say no to listening to the nightly news. Replace it with a motivational book or podcast. Listen to it while you’re walking the dogs, cooking, etc.
- Say no to working through lunch. Put a reminder on your phone to get up from your desk and take a walk at lunchtime. Even a five-minute walk outside of the office will do wonders.
Remember, saying no is a sentence. Get comfortable using it to protect your peace.
Stay healthy in mind and body and have an amazing week.
